HIE are collaborating with Norfima and the Iceland Ocean Cluster on a transnational project which aims to understand how new technologies can be used by businesses in the Highlands and Islands and elsewhere in the Northern periphery to add value to their commercial activities and support their journey towards net zero.
‘DisruptAqua’ explores what specific ICT technologies are most suitable for seafood businesses, by examining the benefits and costs to gain a better understanding of the route towards practical application.
‘DisruptAqua’ partners recently hosted a webinar for businesses and stakeholders to introduce the application of blockchain and to hear from an Icelandic seafood SME about their passion for the product journey from fjord to fork and how technology improved both quality and value for their customers and business.
The webinar also looked at how blockchain technologies could help identity and measure carbon footprints and be an important tool in mitigation strategies and improvement monitoring. Finally, the DataLab innovation centre explained how support is on hand for businesses to help them adapt and embed new technologies to add value to their operations.
